JOHANNES VOEGELE & CATHARINA MEYER

03 February 1757 Haguenau 6E16/101 Marriage Contract

In Name of the Holy Trinity Amen.

Be known to everyone that according to the Laws of God which said to men to continue manhood, a marriage has been decided between the honorable Johannes Voegele, son of honorable Andres Voegele, provost here, and of Elisabeth Siegler his wife, and : the honorable Catharina Meyer, daughter of honorable Dominic Meyer and Maria Anna Mosser his wife, both in Soufflenheim, on the other side. Their marriage contract decides:

First, to have confirmation of their union by the sacrament of marriage in face of the Church in front of priest, and call the blessings of God on their marriage.

Second, as property is concerned, the young couple receives a house in the village of Soufflenheim in all property, from the bride's parents, with all rights and dependences one side Catharina Schaeffter, other side Hans Buchmuller and Martin Simler for part, in front the common street named "Steig", behind is Hans Georg Daul and for part Andres Lehemann, pays to the church here yearly six gulden five schilling, except this in all free property, estimated 500 Gulden in Strasbourg city currency, on this 400 gulden remain to be paid, but only 100 Gulden asked from the new couple, as the sister of the bride, Margaretha, wife of Joseph Daul has declared she will pay this immediately.

Third; it has been decided that if on time of death of the bride's parents, something still remains to be paid on the 400 Gulden, Margaretha wife of Joseph Daul, will have it in community with her sister and heirs.

Fourth, both parents will still continue to live in the house, their life long, and have a place for their crops and wood also in the barn and other dependences.

Fifth and last, what the new couple will by his work and economy gain during the union will be declared at time of division of property in the usual land way so 2nd share for the husband, 3rd share for wife side.

After this all promise to keep to these decisions and never work against any point, and after the record has been read aloud all signed here with the notary:
