FROM THE NEWPORT MINER:
NEWPORT - Alice Smith, a 71-year Newport settler who observed her 100th birthday Nov. 24, died Tuesday in the Pend Oreille Pines nursing home.
Born Alice S. Gregg in Greenville, Tenn., she leaves a daughter, Leola Chrysler of Newport; a granddaughter, Camille Kaltenbach, and a great-grandson, Kai, on Mercer Island. Her husband and son died more than 20 years ago.
Mrs. Smith was a life member of Gen. Chas. King Auxiliary No. 1, Spanish War Veterans; Ladies Auxiliary Patriarch Militant, IOOF, No. 2, Spokane; Woodbine Rebekah Lodge 158, Newport United Church of Christ and a proud possessor of the Decoration of Chivalry.
Funeral services will be held at Sherman Funeral Home this Friday at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Hollis Rice of Spokane and assisted by the Newport Rebekah and Odd Fellow lodges. Patriarch Militant members will serve as honorary pall-bearers and as an honor guard.
Burial will be in Newport Cemetery.

Survived by one daughter, Leola Chrysler, Newport WA; one granddaughter, Camille Kaltenbach, one great-grandson, Kai Kaltenbach, both of Mercer Island, WA. A life member of the General Charles King Auxiliary No. One, Spanish American War Veterans, the Ladies Auxiliary Patriarch Militant, I.O.O.F. Funeral services Friday, Dec. 7, 1979 at 2:00 p.m. at the CHAPEL OF THE SHERMAN FUNERAL HOME, NEWPORT, WA. Rev. Hollis Rice officiating. Interment Newport Cemetery, Newport, WA.
