Here is an enlargement of part of the first photograph:

These three photographs taken in Alsace, in the late 1800's judging from their appearance. Unfortunately, there is no writing on any of them to identify who these people are, so their identity is unknown. Text in the margin and back of each picture (see below) identifies that they were taken in studios in Alsace.

Carol Gable, who possesses the original copies and contributed the images, says that these photographs were passed down to her from the Staebell side of her family.

If the photographs were taken in the 1880's or so, the older woman might be Catherine Schenck Staebell (1829-1883) or a contemporary of hers. The other two women might be daughters or nieces of Catherine. Catherine lived in Stundwiller until emigrating to America in late 1883. Another photograph, known to be of Catherine, is here.

The photos of the old woman and the young woman were taken in Guebwiller, which is about 100 miles south of Stundwiller in Haut Rhin. Or maybe in Cernay, which is a little bit farther away in Haut Rhin. The photo of the nun was taken in Luneville, about 92 miles west of Stundwiller in Meurthe-et-Moselle.

Thank you to Carol Gable for contributing these photographs.
