The
Laborn Family
(Notes by Brian, September 2000)
The 1923 newspaper article (or reporter's notes) about the Rudolph "poison ship" states that the La Born (or La Bourne) family came from a village named Mido in Alsace-Lorraine, and that there was a nearby village named Geldburg. There are no communities with these names, nor with similar names, in Alsace-Lorraine.
Research has shown that the family originated in Medow, a village in Mecklenburg, which is a state in present-day Germany. Their school and church were in the nearby town of Goldberg.
On the page, "The Laborn Family," I speculate about why the error was made in the article.
