Lancaster is a township in Erie County, New York, and also the name of a village within that township. My mother was born in Lancaster, and a few generations of her ancestors lived there.

"Adolph Simon, p o Lancaster, general merchant and lumber dealer, born in Alsace, France, in 1831, came to county in 1846; wife Magdalena Pautler; children three -- Simon Jr., Frank and Magdalena; second wife Mary Nagle, born in Erie county, in 1843, married in 1872; children four -- William, Mary, Joseph and Edwin. Parents, Place [sic] and Teresa Adolf, natives of France, the former born in 1789, and died in 1865, the latter was born in 1792.
